3. Skype The name, ‘Skype’ has a long story behind it. It was originally named as ‘Sky Peer-to-Peer’, then they renamed it as ‘Skyper’. Eventually ‘r’ was dropped to create the current name ‘Skype’. 4. Yahoo Yahoo is a acronym for ‘Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle’. The name was violently used in Jonathan Swift’s ‘Gulliver’s Travels’. 5. Sony Sony is derived from ‘sonus’, a latin word for sound. Japanese people use a slang expression - ‘sonny boy’, which means ‘smart, presentable young men’. 6. BlackBerry BlackBerry is a fruit’s name. The name was used in 1999 because, the keys on the device resembled to drupelets of BlackBerry fruit. 7. Oracle Oracle’s cofounders Larry Ellison and Bob Oats were working on a secret project called ‘Oracle’ at CIA. Oracle was an intelligent database that was able to answer to any questions. 8.
